IMPORTANT GODLY TRAITS
Would you please stop what you are doing for just a few moments at some point during this day and read the first 3 verses in Psalm 1? It is here that God talks specifically about the traits of a godly person, and the first thing God says is that a godly person is separated from the world (v. 1). As you may know, modern psychologists tell us to emphasize the positive if we want to be fulfilled, but here God talks about being fulfilled by emphasizing the negative—Telling us what NOT to do.
- Do not walk in the counsel of the wicked
- Do not listen to ungodly advice
- Do not stand in the path of sinners
- Do not sit in the seat of scoffers
So a godly man is to be separated from the world. But, secondly, a godly person is satisfied with the word (v. 2). That is, a godly person will deliberately engage his/her mind with the truths of God’s Word.
But then, third and finally, a godly person will also be situated by the waters (v. 3) so that our lives will be refreshed and revitalized. In fact, there are 7 gems in this third verse which will mark the life of a man/woman who is situated by the river? Can you find them? And then when you do, will you inculcate them into your life?
When we commit to Jesus Christ as our Savior, he numbers us with the godly so that we can be 1) separated from the world, 2) satisfied with his word, and 3) situated by the waters in order to be fulfilled.
Devotedly your pastor,
Bill Blanchard
