A GREAT PRESCRIPTION FOR ANXIETY
A fable from India, the place of my birth, describes a mouse living in fear of a cat. He cringed at the thought of what might happen should a cat ever catch him. Finally, the Creator could stand it no longer. Taking pity on the poor mouse, he promised a change. Presto! In an instant, the mouse became a cat; but now this cat feared an attack from a ferocious dog. Since he was no better off than before, the Creator went another step further and let him become a dog; but, as a dog, he feared the tiger.
Then the Creator let him become a tiger, only to hear the same whimpering fear: Now he was afraid of the hunger! In exasperation, the Creator finally said, “Be a mouse again! I cannot help you become something you aren’t if you are afraid of what you might become.”
Do you ever find yourself like that mouse? Do you let fears overshadow your faith? Do you take counsel from your fears? I think many of us, even as Christians are tempted to do so. That’s why we need some godly counsel from the Lord at this point. Read Matthew 6:25-34 this week for Jesus’ prescription in dealing with anxiety.
